This weekend I took my photos for my final piece I am doing. Every time I go to the MFA I’m inspired by John Singer Sergeants work. The painting that I love the most by him is his “Study of Thomas McKeller”. This is the painting I decided to draw inspiration from.
Im painting on a 3 x 4ft canvas.
My Description:
COLOR: browns, tan, dark blue, light blue, yellow, mustard, white, ivory, dark/deep red, dark brown, light brown, orange, sienna, dark eggplant, gold, black
POSE: head up, arms back, sitting upright, stomach sucked in, left foot showing, legs spread, looking left, right ear showing, shadow of left hand shows, head tilted to left, kneeling on stand.table, straight posture, more of left arm shows, looking up, extended neck, not smiling
LIGHTING: coming from upper left hand corner, head chest thighs bottom of foot illuminated the most, strongest light on shoulders head and face, light in background contrasts with figure, background light more suttle, less saturated than figure, table edge lit.
SURFACE: transparent, long brush strokes, many strokes, loose, diagonal direction, shorter strokes around edges, wings?? figure more opaquely painted than background, shorter brush strokes, somewhat blended for skin-like texture, each shadow is 1 brush stroke
